Jillian Monet stopped studying when she realized she was three months pregnant. Because she was a leader in her local church, she was afraid that if people found out, they would embarrass her, so she decided to have a secret abortion. Jillian raised the money she needed and drove to the clinic. Along the way, she received two text messages. Although those who wrote to her did not know what was happening, they both assured her that they were praying for her and that God could handle any crisis. However, Jillian was in a hurry because she had to sing in church that same night and she kept driving. However, when she got to the freeway, she knew she was making a bad decision. «l didn’t know I was about to experience God’s sovereign grace, but I put my life in His hands and decided not to have an abortion,» she said as she told me her story. However, things didn’t get better automatically. The baby’s father didn’t want to marry her and many of her friends abandoned her. «l felt depressed because of the guilt I was carrying. I didn’t have enough money, so I spent several nights in the car with my baby. There were people willing to help me, but my pride and shame stopped me from approaching them,» she told me.
Jillian began using drugs to try to numb the guilt and shame she felt. She became so depressed that she considered suicide as an option. «It struck me that God had never abandoned me. Sometimes we believe in a God in white gloves, but He certainly got His hands dirty rescuing someone like me. He began to tell me how much He loved me and my life began to change.» Although it was a slow and difficult process, God completely restored Jillian’s life.
«Now I know very well who the God I sing about is. Believe me, He loves you unconditionally! Even if you’re going through something very painful, He hasn’t forgotten about you. He specializes in [saving] imperfect people. Now I can talk to those who go through similar situations and tell them that we have a hope: Christ Jesus. He loves. He forgives. He restores, redeems, and rejuvenates.» Amen.
Dear Lord, I thank You because Your love will never ever abandon me.
You cast my shame and my sin in the dark depths of the sea.
You hug me, You forgive me, and You heal my life. Hallelujah!
