«Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck»(Psalm 69:1).
DAVID’S SUFFERING had gone too far. Have you ever felt like you were sinking? Well, that is how David felt, or even worse! He felt he was at the point of drowning: the water covered not only his head, but also flooded his soul. He felt that his problems were overwhelming him and he called out to God in search of salvation. As always, in God we find all we need.
A young wife felt just as David did many centuries later and in another location of the world. She, who had never left her country before, had to say goodbye to her mother, a grief-stricken widow, and leave the job that she loved so much in order to go to a place from which she would not return. All that happened right after she had given birth, which she had done a short time after the death of her father. But . . . that is life.
Her husband had obtained a good job in another place, and she had had to leave her heart more than 500 miles away and adapt to a strange place.Her husband had bought a house on a hill from which the whole city could be seen; however, the change had been so radical and the circumstances so difficult that she soon succumbed to postpartum depression, intensified by the terrible loneliness. Her husband traveled a lot, and when he was at home, worked too much.
There is anxiety in which you feel as if you are placed in a gigantic blender that destroys everything in you. Your heart, your desire to live, and your dreams seem to disappear like ghosts in the shadows of nothingness. What is more, many times you forget that dreams exist; you do not know where the powerful wind of the affections of each day will take you. You barely manage to survive the day in which you find yourself. You should know, dear reader, that if that is your case, I can understand you perfectly, because I am the young woman I spoke about.
Would you like to know what happened to my life after that terrible postpartum depression, after the death of my father and the move that took me away from my mother? Well, I enjoyed a full life because like David, I called to God every day in search of salvation, believing that He would hear my voice, take me out of the pit, and put a new song in me (see Psalm 40:1—3). And that is what happened.
