Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ » (Luke 23:34).

Have you ever sat and gazed at a picture of thousands and thousands of people milling about a marketplace or attending a sporting event and asked yourself, «How can I tell all those people about Jesus?»

Japan is a crowded country. Cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Kobe fairly bulge with humanity. I used to ride my motorcycle along their busy streets and freeways wondering if what we student missionaries were doing was making a difference, whether our presence would ever help save anyone.

But just as quickly as that thought entered my mind, a silent voice would remind me of an often-overlooked fact of life. 1 can’t save anyone. Not one person will be in heaven because of Mt Only Jesus can save people. If my Japanese friends had any hops of living forever with God, they’d need Jesus in their lives!

What about all the people in the picture, the ones who might not ever hear the good news of salvation? Jesus gave the answer to that question from the cross. He said, «Father, forgive theta for they do not know what they are doing.»

If you ever decide to become a student missionary, make sure you understand that your job is to show people a healthier, happier way to live. But when it comes to saving anyone, only Jesus can accomplish that. You give hope. He gives life eternal.

Teamwork!
