WHAT RIVER DID THE ISRAELITES CROSS TO ENTER CANAAN?

Do you know where the area of Canaan is located?

ln ancient times, it was located in Western Asia, between the Mediterra­nean Sea and the Jordan River. Today this territory is called Palestine, be­cause the Romans changed its name.

The Canaanites were descendants of Ham, Noah’s son. Sadly, they stopped obeying God and replaced Him with false gods they themselves invented.

However, God chose that area to be the home of the children of Israel after Moses took them out of Egypt with God’s help.

To the Israelites, Canaan was the Promised Land. There they could live in freedom and enjoy green valleys full of fruit trees. They said the land was so rich and fruitful that milk and honey flowed from it. Can you imagine?

The name Canaan is also used in the Bible to refer to the New Earth that Jesus is preparing for all those who believe in Him.

Like the Israelites, it can sometimes seem to us that we’ll never reach Canaan, the Promised Land. lt can feel that we are very tired of walking so much every day. But God has a plan, and when the time He has set arrives, we will get there.
