SETTING COMPLAINTS ASIDE

“But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness

Shall arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go out

And grow fat like stall-fed calves”

(Malachi 4:2).

WITH HANDS held up and help-closed eyes, he asked me, “why do women complain so much?

I opened my eyes astonished but this question and I stopped short for a moment, thinking that I was also included in that statement the man had made. Then he went on.

“Nothing pleases them, they always want more, they’re bothered if things aren’t done the way they like, they always disagree, rarely smile and frequently get mad.“

After the session ended and 1 was alone, I started doing some soul- searching. Do I complain? I confess that I feared replying to myself. But it’s useful to reflect on such things. They may help us improve our own character.

Unreasonable complaints are like constant hammering that produces unhappiness and dissatisfaction with everyone and everything. Sometimes we complain about the family we have, the things our children do, and our husband’s behavior or the house we live in; sometimes we even complain about ourselves. It seems like nothing is ever good enough. This is a very dangerous attitude we should start getting rid of to have a healthier, more balanced attitude in life, which will also help us to get along better with our loved ones.

Complaining drains out our vitality, because it harbors a feeling of defeat ‘inside us that keeps us from enjoying what we have. When complaining becomes a life pattem, we tread on dangerous ground. Like the psychologist and writer Aura Medina says, “With each complaint and negative thought, your body is filled with cortisol, a substance that produces stress, which in turn lowers your defenses and makes you more susceptible to chronic illness.”

In Psalm 103:2, we read, “Bless the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits. “This is the simplest way to end up a spirit of complaint. Keeping in mind all of God’s benefits and blessings lifts us up to a level of gratitude in which it’s more likely for us to discover the secret of happiness.
