Q: I’m a pastor’s kid, but I don’t feel like it. Ever since I was s\k, baptized, I’ve been meaner than ever to my brothers! I want to do what’s right, but it seems that I keep doing wrong. What should I do?
A: Have you read the book P.K the Great? The main character was a preacher’s kid who wanted to prove that he was the greatest. Like lots of pastors’ kids, he probably felt pressured to be smarter, more spiritual, and nicer than everybody else. Fortunately, the story has a happy ending. Yours can too.
Maybe you’re thinking that baptism suddenly makes us into good people. But it’s not the baptism itself that changes us. It’s the relationship with our friend Jesus. Only He can transform us into the kind of people He wants us to be.
What’s the secret of a changed life? Tell God you’re sorry for the way you’ve acted toward your brothers and that you want to change. Trust Him to give you the power. Ask for it, believe He will give it, and claim it. Remember, we can’t change ourselves. If we could, why would we need God?
