«HE SAVED ME, HE SAVED ME»

«Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down,

and the feeble knees, and makes straight paths for you feet,

so that what is lame may not be dislocated,

but rather be healed. Pursue peace with all people, and holiness,

without which no one will see the Lord»

(Hebrews 12:12-14)

FEEBLE HANDS and paralyzed knees indicate tiredness, discouragement, and inactivity. This is the opposite of patience and perseverance, indispensable for the victorious Christian race. Therefore, Paul presents orders originating from the grace of God in order to maintain a living faith and an effective witness.

“Paul’s patience and joy, his courage and his faith during his long and unjust imprisonment, were a continual sermon. His spirit, so different from the spirit of the world, testified that a power greater than earthly dwelt within him. And, by his example, Christians were impelled to defend the cause more vigorously ”(Ellen G. White, The Acts of the Apostles, p. 370).

In this way, it appeals to pursue peace and holiness. Peace is with everyone; holiness, with the Lord. Thus, the child of God is responsible for living in, by and for the grace of God to reach everyone.

On March 12, 2019, Samuel Melquiades was with us at a meeting of missionary leaders from across the South American Division held at the Nuevo Tiempo headquarters. He was so passionate about the Pathfinder Club and Sabbath School that he made designs that summarized the Sabbath School message daily. I myself was one of those who posted all his graphics on social media.

The next day, the Professor Raúl Brasil State School (in Suzano, São Paulo), where Samuel was studying, was attacked by two former students. Gersialdo, Samuel’s father, was accompanying his youngest daughter to a medical consultation, when he was alerted to the tragedy. They immediately went to the scene, and encountered many distraught parents. One by one, the boys left the school, but Samuel never left. A mother, with her daughter crying and her clothes stained with blood, approached Samuel’s father. «He saved me, he saved me,» said the young woman. Yes, Samuel had come between the killing bullets, and he saved two lives, but he couldn’t save his own

Some ten thousand people attended the funeral of this 16-year-old missionary who gave his life so that others could live. His father was able to testify in various media a message of faith and hope. This story is real and moving, and it should mobilize us all.

Like Paul and Samuel, we must be willing

to give our lives to save lives,

because Jesus saved us we could save others.
