A FEAST AWAITS US

«God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us»  (Hebrews 11:40)

ABEL PERCEIVED the promise of a Redeemer and did things God’s way. Enoch became a friend of God and went to live with him. The ark was a testimony of Noah’s faith in God. Abraham and his family went out and obediently followed God’s path. Moses rejected the honors and power of the moment because of his confidence in the high destiny that God had assigned to him and his people.

Rahab, converted and taken refuge in the blood of Jesus, became part of the genealogy recorded by Matthew as one of the honorable progenitors of Christ.

What else can Paul say? Time would be lacking to speak of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, as well as Samuel and the prophets. All of them, by faith, conquered kingdoms, did justice, achieved promises, covered the mouths of lions, put out fiery fires, avoided the edge of the sword, drew strength from weakness, became strong in battles, put foreign armies to flight. They experienced shame, scourging, prison, jail, stoning, being sawed off, and death (Heb. 11: 32-39).

Paul does not pretend to list all the faithful of all times; just emphasize that faith and fidelity are essential for the patient and committed waiting for the coming of the Lord.

The identified and the unidentified have not yet “promised”, but they have already received God’s testimony that their faith will be rewarded. The celebration waits until the end. The faithful of the past and those of the present await the promise of the future. A crowd will pass through the portals of the Resurrection and will be the first of the victorious parade, followed by the living transformed.

Faith grows by hearing its Word and talking to its Author. It is not a luxury for a few, but a necessity for all. “It is the privilege of every Christian not only to wait but to hasten the coming of the Savior. By faith we can stand on the threshold of the Eternal City, and hear the kind welcome given to those who cooperate with Christ in this life ”(Ellen G. White, The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 479, 480).

The gallery of the heroes of the faith is incomplete. There is still room. The Owner of the Universe awaits for you and for all those who, by his grace, you will bring to the feast of the faithful.
