Q: I’m fourteen years old. There’s a girl in my class that I really like, but she won’t have anything to do with me because of something real stupid I said almost a year ago. I’ve told her I’m sorry, but that turned her off even more, and for some reason all the other girls won’t have anything to do with me either. I’ve tried hard to be nice to them, but it doesn’t seem to matter. (I’m not considered one of the more «fine» guys in the class, nor the most energetic.) I need help badly!
A: I can relate. I was never one of the «fine» guys in my class either. I did discover, however, the ABCs of getting along with girls, and hope my suggestions will help you. 1. Avoid trying too hard. When guys are too eager, it turns girls off. 2. Be yourself. Someone once told me, «If you’re a nerd, be a nerd, and people will like you.» I have found this to be true. Don’t try to impress this girl by pretending to be someone else. Be yourself. 3. Continue on. If this girl holds a grudge because of some-thing you said in the past, that’s her problem, not yours. You need to continue on with life and make the best of it. Don’t dwell on the past; just keep going.
