GETTING MARRIED: AN OPTION OR AN OBLIGATION?

“To everything there is a season,

a time for every purpose under heaven”

(Ecclesiastes 3:1).

IN PREVIOUS REFLECTIONS we have talked about the quandary single women face when they reach an age in which many think they should be married. However, it’s time to point out the fact that nowadays many young ladies remain single by their own choice, without the need to be labeled as “spinsters.” Someone coined that term with the prejudiced idea that a woman who is single has a lonely and colorless life, and even worse, that she can’t achieve personal fulfillment unless she gets married.

That’s not true!

Personal fulfillment doesn’t depend on the world’s scale of values but rather on God’s scale of values, which is clearly expressed in the Holy Scriptures. The Lord says, “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 10:39).

Following yesterday’s devotional, it’s necessary to emphasize that being single is a life situation that has advantages and disadvantages, demands and satisfactions, sadness and joy, tension and accomplishments, pleasure and pain, laughter and tears, abundance and shortage; just like every life situation and every marital status. Those are circumstances we all face as part of life and have nothing to do with marital status, gender or social situations. Social relationships are in fact important, because the lack of them negatively affects our health. However, no relationship we may have ever other human beings compares to the close relationship we can have with Jesus, and from which we derive incomparable power, self-esteem and fulfillment.

Christ, the Husband, is coming soon; then, the most wonderful wedding we have ever witnessed will take place and we All take part in it.

While we’re on this earth, let’s prepare for that great day, so that when it comes we can say, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory; for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready” (Revelations 19.7).
