TEMPERANCE
“O Lord, how manifold are You works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions» (Psalm 104:24).
One of the necessary conditions in order to have good health has to do with the air we breathe. It was said that air is the most important element we need to live since we can spend several days without eating, a few days without drinking water, several hours without sleep, but we cannot spend more than three minutes without breathing.
Since air is so crucial to our life, there was a time that someone made a business out of it. The sale of fresh air has proliferated in Japan, China, Great Britain, the United States, Canada and Mexico where there were bars that offer genuine oxygen cocktails in order to increase relaxation, remove fatigue, prevent diseases and reduce the pollution effects through the oxygenation of the blood. Apparently, fresh air for therapeutic purposes is already for sale in the largest metropolises of the world. Even a Chinese billionaire named Chen Guangbiao collects fresh air in cans during the festivities of International Car Free Day, celebrated between 17 and 22 September. Even though the effect that the inhalation of canned fresh air can have on health is not clear, there is no doubt that this element is becoming a pricey commodity.
Certainly, air purity and the cleansing of the blood are related. Fresh air, mixed with good breathing, helps detoxify the body of impurities, improves digestion, calms the nerves, promotes restful sleep, and prevents headaches and even depression. In fact, some people who suffer from depression adopt a stooped and incorrect posture for optimal breathing which impede good oxygenation of the entire body, especially the brain, and prolongs the depressive mood.
Our loving God has provided remedies in nature to improve our health. We need to breathe fresh air using the best of our abilities by implementing various rules such as wearing loose clothes not to compress the lungs, doing exercise that encourages deep breaths, airing our house on a daily basis, especially the room we sleep in, avoiding the smoke of cigarettes or of pollution, planting trees or enjoying the green areas of the planet.
Let us exalt God’s name today for the blessing of fresh air and, first and foremost, the breath of life. We invite you to repeat with the Psalmist, «O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions.»
