“In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.” (John 16:26, 27).
WHAT WAS OUR LORD’S FAVORITE TOPIC when he walked among us? According to Ellen G. White, it was «the paternal character and abundant love of God. «—Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, ch. 8, p. 192.
The heavenly Father’s infinite and ever accessible love. The Lord «drank» from that source every day. There He obtained strength and wisdom to deal with the people’s religious leaders, who were trying to ensnare Him daily. There He received power to interact with the multitudes who so often pressed about Him. That was His «secret», as Peter van Breemen states, «Because His roots penetrated so deep into the Father’s love, His branches could extend to reach every human being.»
Of course, none of this should surprise us. Don’t the Scriptures say that Jesus got up «very early in the morning, while it was still dark,» to go to a solitary place to pray? (Mark 1:35, NIV). As the hour of His trial was drawing near, didn’t the Lord Himself tell His disciples that they would desert Him, but that he would not actually be alone, because the Father would be with Him?
There is another precious lesson for us here. If His relationship with the Father meant everything to Jesus; if the Father’s presence was an undeniable reality to Him, to the point that He never felt alone, what does that imply for you and me? If our Savior found peace and comfort by being in communion with His Father, what does that tell us, considering that His Father is also our Father?
What this simply means is that no matter how big the trials you have to face are, you will never be alone, because the Father will be with you. He will never abandon you simply because He loves you. That is what today’s verse says.
Therefore, make the decision today, in Jesus’s holy name, to daily drink from that never-ending fountain, which is our heavenly Father’s love. As a result, your «roots» penetrate deep into His love, and your «branches» will extend to share our marvelous Saviors incomparable love.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for teaching me that Your Father is also my Father.
Thank You because, in Your name, I have access to the heavenly throne.
As I begin this new day, I want to have the assurance that You will always be with me, and that your joy and peace will fill my heart at all times.
