«Two are better than one,
because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who os alone when he falls,
for he has no one to help him up»
(Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10).
Do not be scared if you feel lonely when you are alone, be scared when you feel alone being with someone. The loneliness experienced when one is surrounded by people is much more devastating.
Human bonds are as necessary as eating when hungry or drinking when thirsty; It is what gives meaning to existence, as we have been created to connect. It is through the other that we become aware of our own life. Without the other, we are like an island lost in the vast universe. It is for this and much more that Jesus prayed: «I ask that they be completely united, that they be one in union with us, O Father, just as you are in me and I am in you» (John 17:21, RVR 95).
Feeling close to another human being nurtures our need for belonging and transcendence, but it is necessary for us to be aware that affective bonds are an emotional and social fabric in which we must actively participate. Erick Fromm refers to healthy bonds as those who see the other as he is, accept him as he is and empathize with him without demands or conditions, and at the same time being genuine and without double face.
Mature human bonds originate through a close bond with God, being honest, genuine, humble, simple, and docile to his will. This is very clear when we read in the Bible: «The Father and I are one» (John 10:30, ESV 95).
Being one with the other does not mean surrender of will and submission, it is only to recognize the other as necessary for a full existence. Recognize that the elderly need children, children need adults, women need men, and men need women. Children will never be a hindrance, parents will never be a burden; In short, coexistence is what allows us not only to exist, but to live fully. Therefore, dear friend who is reading these lines, my last message to you after this 365-day journey is the following: learn to coexist in a way that makes sense for you and for others.
Do not deprive yourself or anyone else of one of the greatest privileges of being created a woman.
