«You disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke … When your terror comes like a storm . . . ‘Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me …because they . . . did not choose the fear of the Lord’ » (Proverbs 1:25-29).
“I HAVE NOT been going to church for some time,» a woman said. She felt upset with herself for making the same two wrong decisions over and over: not going to church and continuing to live in sin. She was committing adultery and was conscious that that relationship was sin, but she did not want to leave it. That forbidden love, in spite of eating away at her conscience, was winning the battle against faith and the practice of religion for the moment. Even so, the feeling of guilt within did not disappear. Her wound got bigger every day.
The church members never stopped visiting her, and she, in an act of hope more than anything else, showed them a white dress she had bought for a special occasion. «I will wear this new white dress on the day I am baptized,» she said as someone who wanted to attain purity. She added, «However, I already know that I have to put my life in order first.» That «first» never arrived. One day, they found her lifeless. Only God knows whether she repented or not. What is clear is that many people urged her to return to the fold with all the Christian love they were able to show her. Nevertheless, the change never came, and that white dress was never worn.
Our text for today is radical concerning those who reject God’s advice and admonition. Difficult times will come for them one day, and believe me, they will come for everyone, and it will be too late. How sad it is to think about people who die every day while choosing consciously to walk far from God. How sad it is to think that that could be your case or mine. My words for you today are the following: «Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, ‘The Lord be magnified!»‘ (Psalm 40:16). «Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!» (Psalm 105:3). Friend, seek the Lord every morning, beginning today, and rejoice in Him. No other joy is more real.
How good it is to be able to say today, «I came out to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I have found you» (Proverbs 7:15)
