TO THE BRIDE AND GROOM!

«For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known» (1 Corinthians 13:12).

The organist begins to play the Wedding March. The small church overflows with expectant guests and the perfume of floral arrangements. The bride takes the first step on the white carpet, radiating beauty. Her hairstyle and dress are exquisite, but the most beautiful thing is her smile. Suddenly, she stops in horror. Up ahead, where the groom should be standing waiting for her, there’s an empty space. Where is the groom? The wedding can’t go on without him! Imagining heaven without God would be as ridiculous as a wedding without a groom. The best thing about heaven will be enjoying His presence.

A few days ago, I was talking to a friend who went through the extremely painful experience of losing three babies. She told me that she finds solace in God, but that she would like God to hug her. She’s longing for heaven! She wants to be able to see God face to face and have a relationship with Him without obstacles or impediments of any kind. The best thing about heaven, without a doubt, is that we will be able to know God as He knows us: intimately and deeply (see 1 Corinthians 13:12). We will be able to see the King in His beauty! (Isaiah 33:17), Reflected in His gaze, in the eyes of the most loving Groom, we will know our value and beauty as never before.

Longing for heaven is yearning for God’s presence. It is wishing we were much closer to Him so we could touch Him. In his article «Without God, Heaven Would Be Hell,» Randy Alcorn said that the best part of the New Earth «will be enjoying God’s presence. He will truly live among us (Revelation 21:3). Just as the Most Holy Place contained God’s dazzling presence in ancient Israel, the new Jerusalem will also contain His presence. The greatest miracle of the New Earth will be our continued and unhindered access to the God of eternal splendor and perpetual delight.» It will be absolutely incomparable!

Lord Jesus, I long for the day when I can see You and hug You for the first time.
On that glorious day, I will be able to touch the scars on Your hands with my fingers and tell You how much I love You.
