«Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord,
she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates» (Proverbs 31: 30, 31).
WHILE WAITING at a store, I stumbled across the title of a book that caught my attention: How to Be a Sexy Woman. I delved into its pages for a bit: «The sexy woman is one with erotic originality, who exploits her strong physical points and invites ‘love’ with female subtlety.» Therefore, the sexy woman is the one who walks around inviting ‘erotic love» by using her physical attributes. The author left me with a lot of questions.
What about the rest? Intelligence, kindness, discernment, tenderness, values, personal care, discretion, strength, courage . . . Where do we leave all of that? Are these qualities also in the range of what we call feminine? Or, on the other hand, should a woman not worry about hairstyle, dress, footwear or perfumes? Where is the balance?
We possess femininity by nature, as a gift from God. Femininity is what makes us different, it gives us an identity; we must appreciate it and highlight it in our personality. That includes caring for our body, emotions and intellect. Believing that the exaltation of physical attributes alone gives us courage makes us banal and superfluous women, and in the long run it will leave us with a great void.
Being a woman is an art that we can all cultivate and a gift that we must develop responsibly. We have been equipped by God for that. We possess an exquisite nature, comprised of very interesting social, spiritual, and emotional skills. If we exercise them wisely and humbly, we will be treated with respect and receive God’s blessing.
Lel us commit ourselves to God and to the next generations to model with dignity what it means to be a woman. We, Christian women are instruments of God to demonstrate and practice what true femininity consists of.
Before starting the activities of this day, look in the mirror. Style your hair gracefully, dress with common sense, highlight the beauty of your figure by choosing well what you eat, but above all, see yourself as a daughter Of God and praise Him for the way in which He made you. May your meditation be: «l joyfully observe myself in a mirror, which illuminates me with a beautiful reflection. I can see blossoming out of my soul the sprouts of love’ from seeds sown by the Lord (Consuelo Sanchez).
