ZIP-LINE SURPRISE

And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:14, ESV

My family spent two weeks on a mission project in Central America. As usual, the travel was exciting and tiring all at once, but it was a joy to work in three countries. During our days in Costa Rica, the church assigned us a driver to takes us to the places we needed to visit. Our driver always had a wonderful attitude and was ready to help and do anything necessary to make our work there successful. When our work in Costa Rica was complete, we were given a free day to do something fun as a family. I asked the driver about a good place to zip-line.

He told me about one that he drove by almost every week and supposedly the best one in Costa Rica. This sounded great, so we decided on that one. When we got there, we found out that the tour was about two to three hours long, so our driver dropped us off and went to run some errands. When the tour was over, he was there to pick us up. That’s when I asked him, “Have you ever gone zip line? He told me that even thought he’d been driving by this place from more than twenty years; he had never zip-line before. I made him get out of the car right there, and I marched him over to the office. I bought him a ticket to ride on the final zip of the tour, which happened to be one of the longest zip cables in the country, going over one-third of a mile over a forested valley between two mountains. He was quite nervous, but I encouraged him and told him I believed he would love it, and he did!

Sometimes we get caught up just thinking about ourselves. That’s our sinful nature.

With God’s help we can be kind of person who thinks of others. Encouraging others is one of the easiest ways to help someone because all it takes is kind words.

Look for someone who looks discouraged today and use kind words to encourage them!
