YOUR GLORY

«But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head»(Psalm 3:3).

THERE ARE men women in history who have become the glory of the country where they were born. I will mention three examples. José Marti died defending Cuba from Spanish colonial rule is considered by many as their great national glory. I will also mention Juan Santamaria, the great glory of Costa Rica, whose death as a hero is celebrated today, April 11. And what could we say about Pancho Villa? He was the great figure of the Mexican Revolution, and also died young. heroes, along many others, have left their mark in our world and died while taking part in that struggle, which they considered greater than their own lives.

Is the world today lacking heroes and heroines? Possibly. Does the world need someone to defend them and get them back on their feet? Possibly. However, our first need is in the spiritual realm. We need to know every day that God sets us free. Free from what? From our sins. God forgives us, God helps us, God defends us, God is our shield and strength.

God offers:

  • >>To be your Protector. «Do not be afraid I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward» (Genesis 15:1), He said to Abraham.»Do not be afraid, because I am your Protector,» He says to you today. «Indeed, you will bless the righteous one, Lord, like a large shield, you will surround him with favor» (Psalm 5:12, ISV). «As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him» (Psalm 18:30). «O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle» (Psalm 140:7).
  • >>To be your Glory. God is «the Glory of Israel» (l Samuel 15:29, ISV) and you are part of His spiritual Israel, the people that honor Him.

With God as their protector and glory, there have also been men and women of flesh and bones who gave everything for God. Those unforgettable people ate examples for us, giving us a path to follow. I am talking about individuals like Stephen, human full of faith» (Acts 6:5) who spoke with «the wisdom the Spirit gave him» (6:10, NIV), and was consequently stoned to death. I am talking about the Waldensians, who lost their lives so that we might have the Bible. What if we were to express our gratitude for their passage through this world?
