“Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb, who will
help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen’”
(Isaiah 44:2).
Isaiah 44 declares that none of the pagan gods can create life—only the God of Israel. That is where we find the description “Your Maker, He who formed you in the womb.” These declarations contradict the theory of evolution. God says, “I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me!” (verse 21). And also: “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemed, and He who formed you’ from the womb, ‘I am the Lord, who makes all things’ ” (verse 24). One reason for the increase in panic attacks among people today could be that, as a society, we have forgotten who created us. Those who do not trust in God need to confront their fears alone. That’s why we have so many books about self-help, eel -confidence, and self-esteem. God calls His people by the nickname ‘Jeshurun,” from the Hebrew Yéshuruwn, a loving, poetic, tender name for Israel meaning ‘upright,” “good,” “honest,” or ‘my little righteous ones.” God, as a good Father, chose a family nickname to encourage his children. What nickname did your parents use for you? My mother called me “mi prenda” (my dear one) in Spanish, probably to show me how much I meant to her. For parents, their children are always children, and that is why for God we continue to be His little ones.
In Isaiah 44:5, God shows His desire for us: “One will say, ‘I am the Lord’s: another will call himself by the name of Jacob; another will write with his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ and name himself by the name of Israel.” It was common in Old Testament time in Ancient Near Eastern cultures for slaves to bear their master’s name on their hand. God expects His faithful servants to feel proud to belong to Him and to bear His name. But God’s eternal love goes even further. He Himself has written our name on His hands: ‘See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me» (Isaiah 49:16). Jesus wrote your name on His hands with blood the day they were nailed to the cross, and He will carry that mark throughout eternity.
Christ “took this humanity with Him into the heavenly courts, and through the eternal ages He will bear it as the One who has redeemed every human being in the city of God, the One who has pleaded before the Father, ‘I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.’ The palms of His hands bear the marks of the wounds that He received.”—In Heavenly Places, p. 13, January 7.
