«Every woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands» (Proverbs 14:1).
The mother and wife has a special work to do in her home, which is her «first missionary field»; however, she should not be indifferent to other women’s needs who, like her, suffer the onslaught from a society that dies victimized by its own mistakes. The servant of the Lord declares, «We are not to wait for souls to come to us. . .. There are multitudes who will never be reached by the gospel unless it is carried to them» (Christian Service, ch. 10, p. 121).
Mercy comes from a woman’s hands when she offers a loving touch to the mother who does not know how to lead her family. It flows from wisdom-filled lips when a young woman comes to her for advice. The supreme example of the «ministry of mercy» is found in Jesus, who at every step He took through the dusty roads of Galilee lavished love, tenderness, and compassion. Ellen G. White states, «Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me’ » (Ministry to the Cities, ch. 5, p. 59).
Drinking from the fountain of mercy, which is Christ, must be the priority of the woman who wishes to be an instrument of His grace. Thus, endowed by the power of the Spirit, we will help bring abundance where there is scarcity, healing where there is sickness, and peace where there is discouragement.
Let us take our place on the battlefield, together with our Captain, Jesus Christ, and do our task with joy, knowing that every soul that falls prey to the tricks of the enemy can be healed and saved through our timely intervention.
