WHOLEHEARTEDLY!

«The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin» (l John 1 :7).

WHEN FRANCES RIDLEY HAVERGAL was a young girl, her mother, while lying on her death bed, told her, «Fanny dear, pray to God to prepare you for all that He is preparing for you.»Frances was eleven years old at the time, but she would never forget those words.

Between the glory of this world and God’s glory, she chose to use her gifts to glorify God’s name. According to Kenneth W. Osbeck, Frances was still a teenager when she experienced conversion. She would later write about it, «Then and there I committed my life to the Savior, and earth and heaven seemed bright from that moment. «t What was her favorite verse? Today’s verse: «The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.» The verse was placed on her bed, where she could read it every day.

It is said that Frances was a distinguished soloist and also an excellent pianist, who specialized in playing the classics, particularly Handel, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven. In addition, she spoke fluent English, French, German, and Italian. In other words, she had every advantage to be successful in the world, but she preferred «to sing for Jesus.» And that was exactly what she did during her short life.

One time she visited the home of friends, where she was to spend several days.

There she met ten people; some were unbelievers; and others were «luke-warm» Christians. So Frances prayed, «God, please give me all these people for Christ.» According to the story, that is exactly what happened. The joy she felt was so great, that on the last night of her visit she was unable to sleep. During those hours, she recommitted her life to the Lord and, meanwhile, began writing one verse after another: «Take my life, and let it be / consecrated, Lord, to Thee; / Take my hands, and let them move / at the impulse of Thy love.»

The result was a beautiful hymn of consecration: «Take My Life and Let It Be.» It is number 330 in the SDA Hymnal. If you can, read every verse of the hymn right now, and while you do so, surrender every area of your life to the Lord, without leaving anything out of the saving influence of the divine Redeemer.

Ask God to take your hands, so they may move «at the impulse of His love.» To take your lips, so that they will only speak of the blessed Savior. To take your time, your mind and your resources, and to use them «always only for your King.» To take your will, and make it «no longer yours.» In short, to take your life, and make it «ever, only, all for Him.»

Dear Jesus, my life already belongs to You, but I want to wholeheartedly reconsecrate it to You. Use it, dear Lord, according to Your will and for Your glory!
