Do you know who Theophilus was?
The Bible mentions him twice. One is at the beginning of the Gospel of Luke, and the other is at the beginning of the book Acts of the Apostles. That’s how we know that Luke wrote both books, because he addresses Theophilus as his friend in both books.
Luke wrote those two books to Theophilus to tell him about everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning until the day He went up to heaven; and he also explained how Jesus’s message spread out from Jerusalem to the whole world because of the work of the disciples and Paul.
However, Luke not only wrote what had happened, but he also closely followed Jesus’s life, death, and ascension. Likewise, he went on missionary journeys with the apostle Paul.
From his descriptions of places through which they sailed together, we know that Luke had sailed a lot in the sea and was a person who knew how to write very well.
Luke was a doctor; that’s why he’s the one who most emphasizes the miracles Jesus performed to heal people. You can read about them in his Gospel.
Luke was Paul’s great friend and helper. He went with him to Rome and was even with him in prison.
In addition, did you know Luke was not Jewish? Because of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we know that he wasn’t. That makes him the only writer in the New Testament who was a Gentile.
