Do you know why the moon is so bright?
The moon is bright because it reflects the light it receives from the sun.
When the sun illuminates the hemisphere of the moon we can see from earth, we call it a «full moon.»
But when the sun doesn’t illuminate the hemisphere we see from earth, we say it’s a «new moon» and it seems like there’s no moon, because the moon is standing between the sun and the earth.
The moon orbits around the earth counterclockwise and since it goes around it, sunlight doesn’t always illuminate it the same way.
Depending on the moon’s position, there can be a new moon, a crescent moon, a full moon, or a waning moon.
God created the moon so that when the sun wasn’t shining on the earth, that is, at night time, there would be a light reflecting the sun to illuminate us.
When the Israelites were fighting against the Amorites at Gibeon, «Joshua prayed to the Lord in front at all people of Israel.
He said,” Let the sun stand still over Gedeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place.”
God answered Joshua’s prayers so they could win the battle. So the sun and the moon stood still for almost an entire day.
That’s something that had never happened before and it hasn’t happened since then!
When Canaan’s inhabitants who worshiped the sun and the moon saw the miracle, they acknowledged that Israel’s God was the only true God, because their gods didn’t have the power.
God can do amazing things in your life; you just need to trust in Him.
In your Prayer Journal, ask Jesus to help you trust in him like Joshua did.
