c. The Pharisee
Would you like to be important in your class?
Maybe you’d like to be a class officer, the one who gets the best grades, the one in charge of school supplies . . .
We all like being the best at something: in sports, with our grades…
That same thing happened to the disciples. They believed Jesus would be made King of Israel.
So they argued among themselves because they all wanted to be prime ministers.
Behind Jesus’s back, they all wondered, “Who’s the greatest? “
Since Jesus knew them well, He told them something that surprised them: “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.»
Do you want to be first or most important? Then you have to serve and help others.
If you have greater responsibility, you have to be the last one to leave the classroom to make sure everyone has left, or help those who didn’t understand the lesson or have a hard time doing their homework.
Jesus also told His disciples they had to be as humble as children.
Do you know why? Because children like you trust less in themselves and more in Jesus than some adults who think they know it all.
Jesus never became a king in Israel, but He’s the King of the kingdom of heaven.
He came to serve and save us, that’s why if you want to be the first, you’ll have to serve and help others like He did.
Jesus loves children very much. You’re very special to Him.
Ask Jesus to help you be humble and serve others. Write down your prayer in your Prayer Journal.
