The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility
(Proverbs 15:33).
DECISIONS
A few years ago, I was about to lose my father. Suddenly, a series of childhood images began to traverse my mind like a movie. At that time, my father was strong as an oak. It seemed that all his plans were executed as he had planned them. 1 watched him with great admiration, hoping to one day become a scale model of his life.
But one day the gospel came into my life and caused a strong conflict between us. At his most successful moment, it was hard for him to understand that his offspring had decided to become a minister of God. On several occasions, he warned me about the drawbacks of my decision and assured me that I would have resounding failure. So one day I decided to leave my home without his support. I confess that I never meant to hurt him, but my desire to serve God was much stronger than my paternal attachment. The interesting thing was that, weeks later, my father came to the city where I was colporting, and then took me to Montemorelos Adventist Seminary (Mexico).
Time was transforming my father’s heart. One day he called me to inform me that he had accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and wanted to be baptized. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. So I traveled to Baja California Sur to baptize him, in one of the most memorable moments of my life. We both cried like children during the ceremony. From that day on he dedicated himself to serving the Lord.
Weeks after I was informed of his serious health situation, I went to see him. There he was waiting for me at the airport, leaning on a cane. He looked faint and with the imprint of the disease showing on his face. There we hugged and again cried like children. Subsequently, he underwent surgery with success. God had decided to leave him among us to continue his mission.
A man is never the same throughout his life. The years transform his mental scheme. Everything changes. It changes strength, vigor, and ideas. That’s why every human being is unpredictable. That means that as long as there is life, there will be hope of being better people. This is especially true in the case of loved ones who have not yet decided to follow the Lord. History has not yet ended, rather it continues throughout life, sometimes to provide its most attractive moments in the last stages of existence.
Pray to God today for those in your family who have not yet accepted His salvation.
