What kind of rocks do you like most, big rocks or little rocks?
Our planet is made up of many rock layers. The outer layer is called «Earth’s crust.» So the earth is like an orange and the earth’s crust is like an orange peel.
There are many kinds of rocks formed by a mixture of minerals, or lava from volcanoes, or plant and animal remains.
In Palestine, there were many rocks and cliffs where people took shelter from the sun, rain, or their enemies. That’s why Bible writers compared Jesus to a rock, and one of the names for Jesus is «Rock of salvation» or «Rock of refuge.’
The apostle Peter says that Jesus is the chief cornerstone (you can read it in 1 Peter 2:7) Do you know what that means? When a building is raised, it’s very important to strengthen its corners, so the first stone that joins two walls is chosen very carefully. That stone is the most important one because it’s the foundation on which the rest of the building’s stones will be placed.
One of those stones can still be seen at the temple in Jerusalem, and it measures more than thirty feet.
The Bible says that Jesus is like that chief cornerstone that supports the whole building. He’s a safe Rock. If you trust Jesus and follow His teachings, you’ll build your life and your character on the Rock, which is Jesus. Even if problems or hardships come up, you’ll always be safe.
Draw a stone in your Prayer Journal and write today’s verse on it.
