WHICH BIBLE CHARACTER WAS SELFISH?

Underline the correct answer

a. Abraham

b. Lot

c. Sarai

When someone invites you to a birthday party, do you always grab the biggest and the best piece of cake or do you wait for others to get one first?

Maybe you think that’s not a big deal, but it shows whether you are selfish or generous.

Do you know the story of Lot? He was Abraham’s nephew, but Abraham loved him as if he were his own son.

Both of them had set out together from Ur of the Chaldees toward Canaan and lived in the mountains.

Abraham and Lot had many cows, sheep, and goats; and sometimes the shepherds caring for the cattle argued over grazing areas, because there were few of them where they were.

One day, Abraham decided to prevent the quarrels between his shepherds and Lot’s. Being generous, he let Lot choose the place where he preferred to live with his family and his cattle.

Which place do you think Lot chose? The best! He went tithe Jordan Valley, near the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. There, close to the river, there was water and green pastures for his cows, goats, and sheep.

Meanwhile while, Abraham was left with the worst area for his cattle to graze, but it was far from those two cities whose inhabitants didn’t respect or  worship God.

Lot thought he had chosen the best, but his selfishness brought him many  problems in those cities.

One day, God had to take him and his family out of Sodom to save them from those wicked people who didn’t believe in God.

Remember that it is always best to be generous, because selfishness always brings about bad consequences.

In your Prayer journal, ask Jesus to help you be generous, not selfish.
