a. In the Jordan
b. In the desert
c. Both previous answers are correct
Have you ever been sick and just didn’t feel like eating?
I’m sure that right after you recovered, you really wanted to eat, right?
God created our bodies with the need to eat food every day in order to be healthy and strong. However, there are people who have endured between forty and sixty days without eating because they were trapped, or lost in the mountains, or in the middle of a snowstorm . . . The truth is that we can’t say the exact number of days a person can fast. It depends on the weight or on the reserves that each person has in their body.
Do you remember who went without food for forty days in the desert? After being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus went to the desert to pray, to speak with His Father to ask for help in the difficult mission that awaited Him: dying for all humanity.
There was nothing to eat in the desert, and He was tired, weak, and hungry. Then an angel, called Satan, approached Him and tried to make Jesus show His divine power to help Himself. Do you know how? He said to Jesus: «if you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread» (you can read it in Luke 4:3).
Jesus was very hungry, but He wanted to show that with God’s help we can master our appetite and our desires, something that Adam and Eve failed to do in Eden. So Jesus responded by mentioning the Bible: «It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God’ » (you can read it in Luke 4:4).
Just as Jesus overcame Satan’s temptation, you can also overcome when Satan tempts you to do something you know is wrong.
Ask Jesus for help in your Prayer Journal and he will help you overcome temptation.
