«Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness» (Psalm 29:2).
WHAT DOES WORSHIPPING GOD ENTAIL? 1 read one of the best answers to this question in a book by Rosalie Zinke. She said that worship isn’t just a physical act such as kneeling to pray. Rather, it’s a heart that loves and reveres God; a heart that has been humbled before a great and powerful Creator. It’s a heart that has been broken on Calvary, consecrated to death to self, and committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
In other words, worshipping God means that I recognize His sovereignty because He is my Creator and His right of ownership over me because He is my Redeemer It means that I trust that my loving God who wishes me to obey Him with all my heart, always wants what’s best for me.
Is there anything missing from this definition of what true worship is? Apparently not! However, I intentionally omitted the last part of Zinke’s statement. In that last part, she says that the heart that has been broken on Calvary, who has died to self and committed himself or herself to the Lord Jesus Christ, does not seek the realization of his or her own desires, but the glory of his or her Creator.
How can I worship God in a way that glorifies His name? The same author helps us respond when she indicates that worshipping Gods is giving the best of what we have: the best of our talents, of our resources, and of our time. This means that we worship God, not only when, on our knees, we recognize His greatness and majesty, but also when we use the talents He Himself has given us to glorify His name.
What talents has God given you? Eloquence? Then preach to glorify God. Is it singing? Then sing to glorify God’s name. Is it organization? Then manage for the glory of God. Is it leadership? Then lead by using our Lord’s leadership style as your model.
Always give God the best and make sure that your gift that ascends to heaven is sprinkled «with the cleansing drops of the blood of Christ. «—Selected Messages, vol. l, ch. 52, p. 344. Only then will it be acceptable before the throne of our heavenly Father.
There is no better way to worship the One who is worthy to receive honor, glory, and majesty now and forever!
Dear heavenly Father, I resolve from today to give You the best of my talents, my resources, and my time. You deserve this and so much more!
