WHAT WAS USED TO ANOINT PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE?

Underline the correct answer

A. Oil

B. Perfume

C. Both previous answers are correct

Do you remember when it was that David knew God had chosen him to be king of Israel?

It was when the prophet Samuel went to his house and anointed him in front of his whole family (you can read about it in 1 Samuel 16).

How did he anoint him? By pouring drops of olive oil on his head.

The oil didn’t have any power, it was a symbol of God’s blessing to carry out a special mission.

In the Bible, there are many examples of prophets, kings and people who were anointed with drops of oil to carry out a special mission like King David. Jesus was also anointed with the Holy Spirit at His baptism.

Nowadays we pray asking for the anointing of the Holy Spirit on someone for them to be elders, deacons, pastors . . . or even to preach.

A special blessing can also be asked for babies when they’re presented to the church, following Joseph and Mary’s example when they presented Jesus at the temple.

There are also sick people who ask to be anointed by the Holy Spirit so God can restore their health.

And I’ve got to tell you that you can also be anointed or chosen by God, if you want to, in order to carry out a special mission.

What do you think your mission is?

Write it down in your Prayer Journal and pray asking to be anointed by the Holy Spirit.
