WHAT WAS A SEAL USED FOR IN THE BIBLE TIMES?

Underline the correct answer

a. To know who a letter came from

b. To seal a letter

c. Both previous answers are correct

Have you ever sent a letter by mail?

If you have, you know you have to place a stamp on the upper right-hand  corner of the envelope.

Do you know what a stamp is? Ask an adult to show you one.

It’s a small square piece of paper with the image of an important person from your country or some engraved symbol that is meaningful in your country.

What’s a postage stamp used for? It’s bought to give value to certain

documents and to pay for a letter or document to be sent from one place to another.

In Bible times, there were no postage stamps or seals, because there was no printing press.

Instead of being made out of paper, seals were made out of clay, wax, wood, metal, or even stone.

They were usually round and were sometimes put on people’s rings to be used to seal letters, official documents, contracts, books written on parchment scrolls, or even tombs.

Biblical seats were used so the owners could make sure all those documents were closed and signed. If a letter was sealed, everyone knew who that letter or document came from.

In 2 Corinthians 1:22, the apostle Paul says God “has placed His seal on  us, and has put the Holy Spirit in our heals as a guarantee of what we will receive.”

just as a letter was sealed by its owner, you belong to Jesus and if you accept Him as your Savior, He places His seal of love on you.

In your Prayer Journal draw an envelope and a seal from Bible times, or make up your own seal.
