a. An eclipse
b. An earthquake
c. A tsunami
Did you know that our planet shakes millions of times each year?
Many times, we don’t realize it because the tremors, as they are called, are very weak. Earthquakes originate because the slabs of rocks (called «tectonic plates») that make up the earth’s crust are always moving, colliding into others or moving away from them, along large cracks called «faults.» When something prevents two blocks from moving, a large amount of energy or pressure builds up. If there is a sudden movement, all that energy explodes and strong vibrations are produced that reach the earth’s surface—those are what we call «earthquakes.»
The strongest earthquake ever recorded occurred in 1960 in Valdivia, Chile, and caused the eruption of the Puyehue volcano. This earthquake was felt in different parts of the world because it produced a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean that reached Japan thousands of miles away.
When Jesus died on the cross, the Bible says there was a violent earthquake that shook the earth. The people in Jerusalem were terrified, because they realized that the Son of God had died. Many graves were opened, and the dead rose. In the same way, when Jesus rose again there was also a great earthquake that woke up the sleeping soldiers who were guarding the grave. And many also rose from the grave. The earth shook with the death and resurrection of Jesus!
Jesus overcame death and showed that when He comes back everyone who is dead will rise again.
