Do you know who invented the Colgate brand of toothpaste?
In 1783, William Colgate was born in the United Kingdom. Since his family did not have enough money, he decided to help.
That’s why he traveled to New York, in the United States, where he survived by selling soap on the street.
One rainy day, he went into a church to avoid getting wet, and there he heard the biblical story of Jacob.
He was surprised by the text of Genesis 28:20—22, in which Jacob made a promise to God to return a tenth of all that He gave him.
At that moment, William knelt and promised God that if He helped him out of poverty, he would return a tenth to Him.
A short while later, he got a job as a messenger at a soap factory, and began to return his tithes to God at church. Since he was a good worker, he went up the ranks and eventually became a business partner. One day, the other partner passed away, so he became the owner of the factory.
He never stopped returning a tenth of all his earnings.
In 1806, William discovered the toothpaste formula you know today. He also created the first tubes of toothpaste, because before that it was sold as a powder or in a jar.
William Colgate became so rich that he returned to God much more than a tenth of his earnings.
He helped many missionaries who took the message of Jesus to other parts of the world and even participated in the distribution of Bibles, organizing several biblical societies.
He died in 1857, but his family remained faithful to God and his company continues to be one of the richest in the world.
Remember that if you are faithful to God, He will always give you much more than you need.
