What do you need if you want to buy a book, food, clothes…?
You need money, right?
In ancient times, people bartered things instead of using money. For instance, those who planted wheat exchange it for sheep or cows.
A short time later, people began using metals such as silver and gold, and their value was determined by their weight.
In the Old Testament, Bible characters such as Abraham or David used that system to buy land.
But in the New Testament, people used coins with the Roman Emperor’s face on them.
Do you think it’s possible to live without money? It would be very hard, wouldn’t it? Nowadays money is important and necessary.
Do you think it’s bad to be rich?
In the Bible, there are Bible characters such as Job, Abraham, Zacchaeus, and others who had lots of money, but they weren’t bad people, because they shared it with others and didn’t make riches the most important thing in their lives.
However, Jesus met a rich young man who obeyed the commandments but didn’t want to share what he had with those who needed it.
Jesus felt very sad because that young man loved his money more than Him.
Jesus loves the rich and the poor, But He warned us that if we love anything more than Him, including money, we won’t be able to live with Him for eternity.
People who love money a lot want more and more of it, they become selfish and are less like Jesus each day.
That’s why the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
Help someone in need today, like Jesus did, and write about your experience in your Prayer journal.
