WHAT DOES PROFANE MEAN?

Underline the correct answer

a. Something holy

b Something pure

c. The opposite of holy

Do you know how to distinguish between the sacred and the profane?

According to the dictionary,»profane” is the opposite of holy, something that’s contaminated and doesn’t respect what‘s holy.

In the Bible, God talks about not profaning the Sabbath or the temple and the importance of being able to distinguish between “holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean.»

Do you think that’s easy?

There’s a Bible verse that can help. It’s found in Philippians 4:8: “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. “

If you put into practice the advice the apostle Paul gave to the Philippians, you should be able to distinguish between the holy and the profane.

If you follow the example of Jesus, you’ll also respect holy things—things relating to God.

So you’ll be reverent in church, you’ll rest from all your work on Sabbath to remember your Creator, you‘ll take care of your body by eating well and exercising, you’ll generously give offerings, and many other things.

When you’re able to distinguish between the holy and the profane, you’ll put God first in your life, even if that means rejecting everything that’s profane in video games, television, Internet, fashion, social media . .

Read Philippians 4:8 again. Then, make a list in your Prayer journal of activities you consider holy and another list of activities you consider profane.
