«Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty» (Proverbs 21:5, NLT).
WORK
My brother Eduardo is the businessman in the family. His head is constantly planning where to invest money. One day, Ernesto, another one of my brothers, asked him what kind of feasible business he could open. Eduardo thought a bit and asked him in what city he was planning on opening his business. When he was told, he recommended the following, «What you should open there is a dry-cleaning business. There’s a good market and you’ll earn money.» Then, he went on to give him some recommendations to manage the new business. In addition, he suggested offering something else in addition to what the rest of the dry-cleaners’ offered to win customers over. Both of them planned things very well and started the project. A few months later the dry-cleaner’s became very successful. Ernesto introduced a nice cardboard collar for garments that pleased his clients, whose numbers began to grow. Soon he had to hire more employees and plan for continued growth.
Few people sit down to plan out their work lives. What kind of job would you like to have? Where would you like to live? What do you need to do to reach your goals? Those kinds of questions are key in your youth. It’s time to make a life plan to know what direction you’ll take. For that, the opinion of experienced people who can guide you accordingly is very useful. Of course, there’s no guarantee that all our plans will come about. However, the Bible’s advice is hopeful: «Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty» (Proverbs 21:5, NLT).
What will you study? Where do you dream of working? How do you see yourself in the future? Where will you be in ten years? What are you doing to reach your goals? It’s important to know! It’s sad to see hundreds of people living lives they never imagined; many of them are married to people they didn’t think they would marry, their jobs seem frustrating to them and their future is very uncertain.
Not everything that happens in this world is God’s will. The Lord respects our decisions, no matter how inept they are. If it wasn’t so, there would be no freedom. One day you’ll reap what you’re sowing today, that’s why it’s important to make a flight plan for your life. It will ease your journey.
Ask the Lord today to help you make a life plan and surround you with people who can guide you in making it.
