«For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them» (Ephesians 2:10).
MANY ARGUE that human beings were cast into the world, where everyone must, with personal responsibility, become whatever they want to be. However, the Christian posture of the origin and purpose of man is defined in the Word of God. We have not been cast to this planet and abandoned to our fate. We have divine provision for every step we take. His promise is: «Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you» (l Peter 5:7).
There are three questions that every human being must answer to find the purpose of his or her life. The first one is: Who am I? If we don’t have an answer to this question, we will be like castaways in the ocean of life. The response comes from the lips of our Maker: «But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light» (l Peter 2:9).
Based on our origin, we are able to answer the second question: Where am I going? On this planet, mistreated by humans, the future sometimes seems uncertain. In response, God says, «For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ* (Philippians 3:20). Having the assurance that we are daughters of God and that our ultimate destiny is His kingdom, brings us to the third question: What am I doing here?
You are a daughter of God and you have a final destiny with your Creator; you are simply an ambassador of the kingdom, and those who surround you need to see it expressed in your words and deeds. God says to you: «You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also» (2 Timothy 2:12).
God has equipped us to fulfill this ministry, «for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind» (2 Timothy l : 7), so «that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work» (2 Timothy 3:17).
