UNDER HIS FLAG

EVERYDAY OBJECTS

«So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west,  and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him» (Isaiah 59:19, NKJV).

There are several kinds of flags. We see them waiving as a patriotic symbol. They’re commonly displayed at school and government functions. They’re always present at soccer games, held by fans from each team. We can find them at lifeguard boxes on the beach, showing how dangerous the water is. And among many other situations, they are also perfectly aligned at Pathfinder Clubs. Each little flag represents a unit.

Among the children of Israel, each tribe also had its flag and camped under it. Those flags headed up marches. They represented a group of people. That is still one of the purposes of flags today.

We’ve seen images of people hugging them or proudly wearing the colors they represent lots of times!

But now I invite you to imagine you’re standing under the flag of the Spirit of the Lord and that you’re part of a team with no boundaries…the winning team.

The Lord ‘s flag reminds us of where our homeland truly lies, it helps us to remember what team we belong to, it warns us when we’re treading dangerous waters and gives us a sense of belonging with other people who share our beliefs.

He’s the captain of our unit and promises to raise his flag when the enemy comes near. He assures us He will defend those who are marching behind it.

It doesn’t matter where we’re from. Jesus gave His life so we would have access to heavenly citizenship.

Let’s not settle for a temporary flag or defend the barriers that separate us a lot when we should actually be represented by the Lord’s flag, from a land that’s not of this world. Remember that when you see flags today.

Remember it when you see so many hearts and mentions of love.

As the well-known song says, “The Lord is mine and I am His. His banner over me is love.”

He is the definition of love. It’s His essence. It’s His character. Our heart should always be hidden in Him, in His identity, in His immensity, in His simplicity…in the way He is.
