TIME-THE MATTER FROM WHICH LIFE IS MADE

«God has made everything beautiful for its own time.

He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the scope of God’s work from beginning to end» (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NLT).

ONE OF SHAKESPEARE’S most famous phrases is: «Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.» This saying leads me to think of the statement made by the wise Solomon: «To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven» (Ecclesiastes 3: 1), after which he lists humanity’s lifelong daily tasks.

Today, January 2, we are at the dawn of a new year. Living is a privilege and time is the tool we can use to enjoy that privilege or, by contrast, to waste it. The seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years will come and go—it’s impossible to retain, relive, save or keep them. The only thing that makes the difference is how we use them.

Time is like a streetcar without stops, and we can only reach our destination successfully if we are persevering, ambitious, timely, effective and, above all, if we have a vision. There are many who become bogged down in the failures and the ups and downs of their existence. On the other hand, if we hold on to God’s hand, we can run and, though we may be tired, He can give us wings like an eagle (see Isaiah 40:31). That’s God’s promise and He will fulfill it if we humbly trust His guidance. As this new year begins, keep the following in mind:
