DECISIONS
The battle must have occurred approximately between the years 1026 and 1023 BC, and took place in the valley of Elah, between Azekah and Socho, about 27 Kilometers southwest of Jerusalem. Suddenly, on the side of the Philistine army appeared Goliath, a warrior almost three meters in height, dressed impeccably for war and with extensive experience in the battlefield. The face of the giant was so frightening that his presence shook the Hebrew army with fear, whose soldiers hurried to crouch among the rocks. Then he began his psychological warfare with a gale of insults directed at his rivals. This part shows the first requirement to defeating a giant.
Leadership. In fact, the one who should exercise authority, namely King Saul, does not. Instead of going out and defending his people and the God the Philistines are insulting, he sequesters himself in his tent without knowing what to do. When one does not exercise the proper leadership, another will assume it sooner or later. Thus, a teenager dedicated to sheep herding—of much lesser stature, without the proper equipment for war, and without military experience—assumed the leadership of the king of Israel and was willing to confront the giant.
Identity. The Bible says that Saul dressed David in his own battle attire, including a bronze helmet on his head and a breastplate. However, the boy could not even walk with such armor. That reminds us of a good lesson: never put on another’s armor to fight, because it’s not going to fit properly. You better learn to fight with your own armor.
Confidence. David had to be very certain that God approved of his decision to confront Goliath. His goal was to make the God of Israel known to the whole world. The young man’s face reflected an assurance that only the heavenly Father bestows.

Do you have the confidence to make Christ known through the various areas of your life? If so, then prepare to see how the giants fall before God and how the name of the Lord is honored and exalted by those who have slandered Him.
