«And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord» (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17).
I REMEMBER how much my father loved children. Scenes of that day come to my mind when, as he was dying, he looked at me and without being able to say much, touched my abdomen. He knew that I was pregnant and that he was not going to have the opportunity to meet his granddaughter here, while alive. Two months after my father died, my baby was born. However, there are still days when I think I hear the voice of my father singing one of his favorite hymns in Spanish:
«With insane fury they flogged Him,
and thus they humiliated the Lord,
and pierced my Savior’s hands without pity.
Those feet that walked to heal and bless were pierced by horrible nails as they shared the human fate.»
I want to hug my father when we get to the new earth; that is a hope that keeps me strong because I am confident that we who have believed in Christ will be taken to live with Him forever—those who have died as well as those who are still alive. I will then be able to take my father’s two grandchildren to him so that he can meet them for the first time, and I will also be able to sing with him again that hymn he loved so much. All evil will already have passed and will be erased from our memories. However, there is something we will never forget, because Jesus will not take away the scars that He has on His hands and feet.
Ellen White said, «The cross of Christ will be the science and the song of the redeemed through all eternity. In Christ glorified they will behold Christ crucified. .As the nations of the saved look upon their Redeemer and behold the eternal glory of the Father shining in His countenance; as they behold His throne, which is from everlasting to everlasting, and know that His kingdom is to have no end, they break forth in rapturous song» (Reflecting Christ, December 26, p. 374).
There are two wonderful things we will be able to enjoy in the new earth: we will meet again with our loved ones, whom we unfortunately lost here; and we will celebrate with the Lord the life that He has given us thanks to His sacrifice on the cross. What a wonder fill hope to live for!
