«Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught» (Proverbs 3:25, 26).
WISDOM
Elisha was the Lord’s faithful prophet who informed the king of Israel about his enemy’s movements. The king of Syria, in particular, had the intention to attack Israel, but Elisha would notify the Hebrew monarch about the military strategies planned in secret by his enemies. Upset by his plans’ failure, the Syrian leader decided to find out who the traitor that was spying for the Israelites was. Then he was informed the prophet Elisha was the one responsible for what was happening.
So, the king of Syria sent a great army who appeared in front of the prophet’s humble home. The following morning, Gehazi, the prophet’s servant, opened the house door, and all of a sudden saw a powerful army ready to annihilate them! So, amid desperate cries, he ran in and notified the prophet about the situation. Elisha calmly heard him and smiled in light of the young man’s distorted face. His answer was a prayer to God, «Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see» (2 Kings 6:17, NIV). God answered his prayer, and his servant saw that the hill was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha. It was the Heavenly army! It had been there all along, but he hadn’t been aware of it!
I’m convinced that in this world humans only manage to perceive certain levels of reality. But there are other dimensions that are there, although we can’t see them. For instance, angels are with us every day to protect us, even though we don’t perceive them. In addition, nature has hundreds of lessons about the love of God every day, but because we fill our heads with worry, anxiety and earthly matters, we don’t make full use of them.
God needs to open our eyes to see His wonders in nature, in Bible teachings, in daily providence, in solutions to our problems, in knowledge acquired in school. Actually, the footprint of His presence is everywhere. Have you noticed that?
I invite you this morning to ask the lord to open your eyes to see His wonders in your life. That way, you won’t need to give in to despair or anguish. Instead, you´ll learn to face life with a different attitude.
