THE TWIN PSALM PART I

«Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You» (Psalm 56:3).

When I was diagnosed with panic attacks, I attended my first session with a therapist, who held a pendulum in his hand. I told him that I was a Christian and that I didn’t believe in that treatment method, and that I would not be returning to him. When I got home, I knelt and I asked God to be my therapist. God inspired me to review the texts about fear in the Bible. After a few months, I was able to return to my job. This book is a result of the therapy that God is still completing in my life.

«He whose heart is fixed to serve God will find opportunity to witness for Him. Difficulties will be powerless to hinder him who is determined to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. In the strength gained by prayer and a study of the word, he will seek virtue and forsake vice. Looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of the faith, who endured the contradiction of sinners against Himself, the believer will willingly brave contempt and derision. And help and grace sufficient for every circumstance are promised by Him whose word is truth. His everlasting arms encircle the soul that turns to Him for aid. In His care we may rest safely, saying, ‘What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.’ Psalm 56:3. To all who put their trust in Him, God will fulfill His promise.»—The Acts of the Apostles, ch. 44, p. 467.

The «Twin Psalm» is called that because of its similarity to Psalm 57. It was written by David in the most extreme circumstances:
«David seemed to be cut off from every human support. All that he held dear on earth had been swept from him. Saul had driven him from his country; the Philistines had driven him from the camp; the Amalekites had plundered his city; his wives and children had been made prisoners; and his own familiar friends had banded against him, and threatened him even with death. (…) He reviewed his past eventful life. Wherein had the Lord ever forsaken him? His soul was refreshed in recalling the many evidences of God’s favor. The followers of David, by their discontent and impatience, made their affliction doubly grievous; but the man of God, having even greater cause for grief, bore himself with fortitude. ‘What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee’ (Psalm 56:3), was the language of his heart. Though he himself could not discern a way out of the difficulty, God could see it, and would teach him what to do.»—Patriarchs and Prophets, ch. 68, p. 692.

When we trust in God, we don’t need to know the answers. «Our fears do not keep us from dying; they just keep us from living» (Elizabeth Kübler-Ross).
