The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world and a very unique architectural feat. When we arrived in Paris, the first item of business was to find a parking spot and walk to the tower. Soon we came to a clearing where we had a fantastic view of the tower. Naturally, we had to stop and take pictures. We finally made it to the base of the tower and looked up. It was enormous! Turns out it’s the equivalent of an eighty-story building! Since I spoke some French, I went over and asked for information about going up. Turns out we had a few options. The Eiffel Tower has three levels and you can pick how high you want to go. When I inquired at the booth about costs, I was quite shocked at how expensive it was to take the elevator up. I had visited twenty-five years before and had gone up, but it was a lot of cheaper back then!
We were happy to learn there was another option—taking the stairs—lots of stairs! For a much reduced price, we could take the stairs up to the second level. I asked my family what they thought, and I got a very predictable me answer from my boys: they loved that idea even more than riding the elevator. We got our tickets and started climbing. Seven hundred steps later, we arrived at the middle level, about halfway up the tower. It was quite a workout getting there, but my wife and I were amazed at how our two boys practically ran up the steps without losing their breath. During our climb, I noticed a couple struggling to make it up. I wanted to help them, but there was nothing I could do. It’s not like I could pick them up and carry them. I mention dill because my heart felt compassion for those poor, exhausted people.
JESUS asked us to have compassion for the people around us. look around today; GOD might put someone in your path today who needs your compassion.
