«The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him» (Nahum 1:7).
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PLACE TO PRAY?
«Nathanael of Cana in Galilee» (John 21:2), was in his favorite place of prayer when Philip found him to tell him that they had found «Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph» (John 1:45). But it was enough for Philip to say «Nazareth,» so that prejudice would lead Nathanael to ask, «Can anything good come out of Nazareth?» (v. 46).
Nazareth had not been mentioned by the prophets as the Messiah’s place of origin; moreover, it was a «very undistinguished» town. How could the expected Messiah come from Nazareth? Nathanael, however, did not possess all the information. Although Jesus had grown up in Nazareth, He had not been born in Nazareth, but in Bethlehem; and Bethlehem had been spoken of by the prophets (see Micah 5:2). The truth of the matter is that Philip did not answer Nathanael’s question, but merely said to him, «Come and see» (John 1:46). The biblical account says that «Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, ‘Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!’ » (v. 47). Great must have been Nathanael’s surprise.
«How do You know me?» he asked.
«Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,» Jesus answered (v. 48).
These words reveal that Nathanael was never alone in his secret place of prayer: In this place, the Savior had already seen him. Moreover, according to The Desire of All Ages, when Philip found him, Nathanael was praying «that if the one announced by John was the deliverer, it might be made known to him.»—ch. 14, p. 140. God did not let him down.
Dear friend, when discouragement wants to take over you, and you think that God has forgotten you, remember that He who saw Nathanael under the fig tree also sees you in your secret place of prayer. Moreover, He also knows you personally. He knows of the worries that are stealing your peace right now, as well as the longings most rooted in your heart. Best of all, at the right time, your prayer will be answered in accordance to what is best for you.
What if right now, no matter where you are, you give thanks for the wonderful Savior who is Christ the Lord?

You are always attentive to my pleas and prayers.
