«And where I go you know, and the way you know» (John 14:4).
IT WAS a cloudy, cold night, and I needed to go to the airport to pick up my husband. The airport was twelve miles from my home, so I took my two children who were very small with me. I put them in their car seats and set about to drive through the streets of Tegucigalpa which, very Often, are true labyrinths that have to be memorized. The night wore on and my sight began to fail when suddenly, the bad combination of my inner fear and the poor outer visibility made me go to the wrong location. I felt overwhelmed.
Thinking that I was running late, I made the decision to drive faster, but at that speed, I took some wrong turns that led me to become even more lost. I saw nothing that indicated I was near the road to the airport. Lost and not knowing what to do, I decided to park in a shopping center and began to pray. When I finished praying, a tall, elegant man got out of his luxurious car and came toward me.
«Hi. Do you need help?’ he asked me.
«Yes,» I answered. «I have to go to the airport.»
As if he knew that it would not be enough to give me directions, he said, «Follow me!»
I followed him very trustingly and when we were about to arrive at the airport, the man put his hand out of the window to wave goodbye. I have always thought that it was an angel the heavenly Father sent me in my moment of distress.
We do not always take the right path in life—the one that leads where Jesus is. When we realize that we are lost, we need suitable help, which begins with searching the Scriptures and continues with pleading for divine intervention. Lamentations 3:40 gives us this invitation: «Let us search out and examine our ways, and turn back to the Lord.» is the invitation I give you this morning: search and examine the path you are taking and if you realize that you have moved away from the Lord, make a 180-degree turn, retrace your steps, and recalculate.
«To him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God,» God says to us (Psalm 50:23). And salvation has to be the priority of our lives. Thus, my prayer for you and for me is this: «Uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip» (Psalm 17:5). Amen.
