«He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him»(John 14:21).
HISTORICAL RECORDS GIVE WITNESS of the times of great political turbulence Christians lived through in the Roman Empire until Emperor Constantine came to power. In AD 313, he legalized the Christian religion in his whole empire with the Edict of Milan. Thus, he put an end to the persecution of Christians and instituted a new day of rest: Sunday. This weekly festival was in honor of the sun god whom he had always worshiped and whose symbol he wore. In this way, observance of the biblical Sabbath became a minority within Christianity.
Latin culture has inherited much from the Ancient Roman Empire. We have inherited things as important as a mindset, a majority religion (which is Catholicism), or a legal system. Culture weighs very heavily on the decisions we make. For many, the customs of their parents, their family, their country, or the society in which they live are more important than the truth. To them, living together in peace, tradition, and not being different weigh more than the truths of the Word of God. However, Jesus is looking for faithful sons and daughters who love Him and for whom the truth of Christ is more important than the traditions and values of culture.
«Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus» (Revelation 14:12). The commandments of God, as He wrote with His own finger, include the observance of the Sabbath: «Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it» (Exodus 20:8-1). The Word of God cannot be modified, so the decision is yours to make. If you love Him, keep His commandments. Happy Sabbath.
