«And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God»(Deuteronomy 28:2).
I ONCE WENT UP to a woman whose daughter was dying from cancer and said to her: «You know, my children and I pray for you every day.»She answered, «Thank you very much! If you only knew the great blessings, we have received in these very difficult circumstances Continue praying, please. Don’t stop praying.»Her face had a special glow; her smile made it clear that the presence of God was with her, with her sick daughter, and with the whole family. They spent time being in the presence of God, and as our text today says, the blessings of the Lord overtook them. It seems incredible that one can receive such great blessings at moments as critical as a terminal illness that leaves us without hope of physical life here on this earth. However, that is how it is, and perhaps you already know it from your own experience.
Many people wonder: «How is it possible to feel that we receive blessings when things are going badly?» It is possible because God never stops being with us in the good and the bad that this world of sin puts before us. When this woman lost her daughter, people were able to see a funeral that was different. The family was able to glorify God and give thanks to Him for His mercy, and that greatly impressed the hearts of those present. Even on such a tragic day, they gave a moving testimony of the love of God.
We read in Proverbs 10:6: «Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.» This explains a little the topic with which we are dealing today. People who turn away from God during the problems and difficulties of life, blaspheming and making absurd complaints, miss out on the blessings that are reserved for the righteous persons who understand that they live in a world in conflict and that God has not promised us that we will not suffer. One of the blessings received is the peace of God, and that, dear friend, is no small thing.
The greatest blessings can be felt even in the midst of the worst tribulation if you are watching for the manifestations of God and trust that He is more powerful than the circumstances.
