Sarah, Deborah, Esther and Mary are some of the women in sacred history who occupied a position of leadership over the people of Israel, in the time in which they lived, and exercised it with discipline, efficiency, perseverance and diligence. In this time that we have lived, we also need Christian women who exercise a type of leadership that God wants to see in his church. The call to Christian leadership extends to each of us without exception; yes, you too, dear friend who is reading these lines. However, the decision to take it on is personal.
The only characteristics you need are:
- Being service-minded
- Being willing to pay the cost it implies and
- Glorifying God through what we do, without seeking acknowledgement, flattery, honor or fame.
Those who are willing to wear himself out in service must begin in his own experience, through conversation with God, perseverance in prayer and abiding on the path that leads to perfection through Jesus Christ.
As we travel the path that leads to heaven, we will face the most challenging and sometimes frustrating experiences. Caring for children and marriage, remaining pure amid impurities, and holding tightly to the hand of the Almighty are some of the challenges that leadership entails.
Christian woman, take your place without fainting. Weakness is born when we depend on ourselves and our abilities, and we stop relying on the strong arm that supports us when we stumble. “The children of God should not be subject to feelings and emotions. When you waver between hope and fear, you wound the heart of Christ, because he has given you evident proofs of his love. He wants them to be affirmed, strengthened and grounded in the most holy faith. […] Christ’s love for his children is both tender and firm” (Messages for Young People, ch. 29, p. 110).
The work is set before us. Let’s go in the name of the Lord!
