THE HEAVENLY CHOIR

“Then a voice came from the throne, saying, ’Praise our God,

all you his servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!”

(Revelation 19:5).

When the great controversy has ended and Jesus arrives in heaven as a victorious warrior, the heavenly beings will celebrate God’s great triumph, singing an antiphonal hymn of victory (see Revelation 19:1—8). The hymn will be performed by various groups. Verses 1 to 3 are sung by the multitude that is already in heaven, possibly angels:    ‘Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.’ Again, they said, ‘Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!’ ” The Hebrew word Alleluia is made up of6oñf, which means to praise, and Yah, an abbreviation of Yahweh. In other words, it means “praise Jehovah” or ‘God be praised.” It appears four times in the New Testament, all in this chapter.

Verse d is sung by a choir made up of the twenty-four elders and the four living beings: ‘Amen! Alleluia!” Verse 5 presents someone who speaks in the name of God, inviting all to continue praising Him. Then, a choir of the voices of all of the redeemed responds, ‘Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready” (verses 6, 7). These redeemed ones are those who show a reverent fear of God.

‘When the earthly warfare is accomplished, and the saints are all gathered home, our first theme will be the song of Moses, the servant of God. The second theme will be the song of the Lamb, the song of grace and redemption. This song will be louder, loftier, and in sublimer strains, echoing and re-echoing through the heavenly courts…. The church history upon the earth and the church re- deemed in heaven all center around the cross of Calvary. This is the theme, this is the song,—Christ all and in all,—in anthems of praise resounding through heaven from thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand and an innumerable company of the redeemed host. All unite in this song of Moses and of the Lamb. It is a new song, for it was never before sung in heaven.”— Testimonies for Ministers, ch. 62, p. 433.
